An entity is a distinct, machine-recognizable thing — a company, product, person, or concept — that search and AI systems track across many sources. Being a well-defined entity is what lets a model attribute information to you consistently.
In plain terms
Models build a picture of an entity from consistent naming, structured data, and corroborating third-party references. The clearer and more consistent those signals, the more confidently the model can reason about you.
For example, if your brand name is consistent, marked up with Organization schema, and mentioned by trusted third parties, a model resolves "you" cleanly; if signals are thin or your name collides with others, it may conflate or skip you.
Entity clarity is the foundation that mentions and citations build on — a model has to know who you are before it can reliably cite you.
Why it matters
Consistent names, domains, descriptions, and public references reduce ambiguity around a brand identity.
Entity clarity supports accurate analysis, but no single schema field or third-party mention guarantees how an AI provider resolves the brand.
