How the check works

  1. Fetch the page

    We request the URL server-side and read the rendered HTML: headings, lists, tables, JSON-LD and dates.

  2. Score seven signals

    Each signal carries a fixed weight and partial credit is allowed, so a half-built FAQ earns half its points.

  3. Rank the fixes

    Failed checks are ordered by recoverable points, biggest first, so you know what to do on Monday morning.

What moves the score

The four things that decide whether you get quoted

Answer engines do not read your page the way a visitor does. They look for parts they can lift without breaking them.

  1. An answer-shaped opening

    Engines quote the first substantive paragraph. Forty to sixty words that answer the question directly beat a marketing preamble.

  2. Structure they can parse

    A clean H1/H2 hierarchy, question headings, lists and comparison tables give a model discrete chunks it can lift in isolation.

  3. Machine-readable schema

    Article, FAQPage or HowTo JSON-LD names what the page is. Organization and WebSite alone only describe the site around it.

  4. Provable freshness

    A machine-readable datePublished or dateModified lets an engine prefer you over an undated page on the same topic.

  1. Lead with the answer

    Put the direct answer in the first paragraph and expand underneath. Do not bury it under context.

  2. Mark up your FAQ

    Three or more question headings plus FAQPage JSON-LD is the cheapest block of points on this list.

  3. Expose your dates

    Emit datePublished and dateModified in JSON-LD, not just a rendered "Updated" line a parser has to guess at.

  4. Earn the word count

    Push past 600 words of real content. Thin pages rarely survive answer-engine selection.

What holds the score down

  1. Schema theatre

    Organization and WebSite markup on every page never tells an engine what this particular page answers.

  2. Heading soup

    Multiple H1s, or an H2 that jumps straight to H4, leaves the section boundaries ambiguous.

  3. Walls of prose

    No lists, no tables, no subheads — nothing a model can quote on its own without dragging in the paragraph around it.

  4. Silent updates

    Rewriting a page without touching its dates leaves it looking stale next to a fresher competitor.

No. Answer engines do not publish a citation score. This tool measures seven structural properties that repeatedly correlate with being quoted — an answer-first opening, parseable structure, content schema and a provable date — and tells you which of them your page is missing.
A 0 with no fixes means we could not fetch the page at all. Check that the URL is publicly reachable and not blocked for bots. A real score always arrives with a populated checklist.
