Top fixes, by impact

  1. Add an Article, FAQ or HowTo schema (JSON-LD) block.
  2. Name the author and add a one-line bio.
  3. Show a visible publish or last-updated date.

How it works

  1. Scan a live URL, or paste a draft

Pick From URL to scan a published page, or Paste text to check a draft before it goes live.

  2. Add the question your page should answer

Optional. Tell the tool the question, and it checks whether your opening answers it clearly — the biggest citation signal.

  3. Read your score and fix the top issues

Basics

What is AI readability (and how it differs from SEO)?

Ranking and being quoted are two different problems. This checks the second one.

  1. Indexing versus answering

A search index needs to know what a page is about. An answer engine needs a sentence it can lift and stand behind. The first tolerates a slow build-up; the second walks away from it, because there is nothing at the top of the page worth quoting.

  2. Readable, understandable, citable

Readable is whether the text exists in HTML the crawler receives. Understandable is whether the structure makes the claims separable. Citable is whether one passage can be quoted without the rest of the page attached. A failure at any of the three ends the same way — silence.

  3. Why paraphrase costs you the click

When a model cannot find a clean passage, it summarises in its own words — and a summary rarely carries a link. The page still fed the answer; the reader just never learns that it did.

  4. Citations are the new backlinks

Discovery increasingly happens inside the answer rather than the result list. Which pages get named there is decided less by authority than by whether the page made itself easy to quote accurately.

Do & avoid

Six things that decide whether you get quoted.

The score above measures them. Here is what each one means in practice.

  1. Answer in the first two sentences

Put the complete answer directly under the H1. Everything after it can be depth, nuance and evidence — but the quotable line has to come first.

  2. Burying it under a long introduction

An answer in the sixth paragraph is an answer the model reaches after it has already built one from someone else's page.

  3. Write facts that survive on their own

Each key statement should hold up with nothing before it. Anything that depends on the previous paragraph cannot be lifted, and so will not be.

  4. Text that only exists after JavaScript runs

Plenty of AI crawlers take the raw HTML and nothing else. If the content arrives via client-side rendering or lives inside an image, those agents see an empty page.

  5. Show who wrote it and when

A named author, a visible date, real outbound sources and Article or FAQ JSON-LD are what let a model attribute the claim rather than treat it as unsourced.

  6. Blocking the agents by accident

One inherited robots.txt line can hide the page from GPTBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot while leaving Googlebot untouched — so nothing looks wrong until you check.

Frequently asked questions

A number from 0 to 100 estimating how easily AI engines can read, understand and cite your page. It combines five checks: answer-first content, structure, machine-readability, trust signals and crawler access.
No. SEO is about ranking in traditional search. AI readability is about whether AI engines can quote and attribute your page. They overlap, but a page can rank well and still be hard to cite.
It helps a lot but is not strictly required. Schema like Article, FAQ or HowTo makes content easier to parse and trust. Clear answers and structure matter even more.
This checks whether a page is structured so AI can read and cite it — the on-page prerequisite. Visibility checks crawl/agent readiness (robots, llms.txt, SSR, bots). Citable first, cited second. Live mention tracking lives inside GetCited.me.
